Taormina and Castelmola
From Taormina your minibus will continue to Castelmola, a charming village above Taormina. The side trip will reward you with excellent views. See the ruins from which the village's name comes. Stop to enjoy a refreshing granita or a glass of almond wine at one of the village's delightful outdoor cafés before rejoining the minibus for the return to Taormina. Here your guide will explain the history of Taormina and introduce you to all the curiosities of this medieval city. You will begin a walking tour with the opportunity to admire the ruins of the Roman Odeon, a small imperial-age theater perhaps used for rehearsals, the 15th century Palazzo Corvaja (outside) and the 17th century church of Santa Caterina. From here we will walk to the Greek Theater. Begun by the Greeks in the 4th-3rd century BC, the theater was expanded by the Romans a few centuries later and is now a close second to nearby Syracuse in terms of importance and size.
