SAINT JOHN

Saint John has always been chosen as the patron saint of almost all the ancient esoteric Christian sects, as well as the most recent initiatory societies such as.

The invocation of St. John has very often confused the two Saints: the Evangelist and the Forerunner. This is probably due to the symbolic affinities that exist between the two Saints. Therefore let us try to see what these affinities are by taking into consideration the separate lives of the two Saints, first the Baptist and then the Evangelist.

St. John the Baptist was the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth. The news of his birth is provided to us by the Gospel of Luke: the angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah announcing the birth of a son who "will be filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb" (I, 16) and "will go as a precursor , with the spirit and power of Elijah" (I, 17). Since Zechariah did not believe the angel's words, he told him that he would remain mute until the day of John's birth. And so it was. When John was born, Zechariah, unable to speak, wrote on a tablet: "John is his name" and from that moment he regained his speech.

The Baptist was born exactly six months before Jesus. He came into the world during the Winter Solstice, John in the Summer Solstice. Both Jesus and John lived to be 33 years old and both died at the hands of men.

St. John the Baptist was called the "forerunner" because he prepared the way for Christ and "baptist" because he baptized in the waters of the Jordan. During our visit we will also talk about the contrasting figure of John the Evangelist Apostle who represents the winter solstice. The guided tour includes the church of San Giovanni Battista, the stick, the historic Rodolico shipyard. As evening falls, an aperitif stop at the Ghenea lido to conclude the guided tour with an interesting chat on the geological origins of the stacks and the Lachea island and its columnar basalts.
