Depart the hotel for your drive to the town of Giarre via the motorway. From Giarre the tour continues towards Mt. Etna, via a scenic route, passing the villages of Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea as well as a memorable landscape of orchards, vineyards, woods, hardened lava flows and volcanic cones. Reaching Rifugio Sapienza at 6,400ft. you visit the Silvestri Craters, formed during the eruption of 1892, and see the 1983 and 2002 lava flows. Free time for photos before your drive back to your hotel (1 hour 15 minutes to Taormina). From Rifugio Sapienza it is possible to reach the peak zone (quota of 2.700/2.900 m.) that was struck by the eruptions which took place in 2001 and 2002 by a cable car and cross-country minibuses and with the safe lead of Alpin guides (about an hour and half).
