Leaving the hotel you will join the motorway for the journey to Savoca, a village charmingly situated on a saddle between two hills. In a 19th century house at the entrance to the village is the Bar Vitelli with a collection of photographs taken when Francis F. Coppola shot some scenes of his Godfather. Stop for a refreshing lemon granita with zibibbo wine before you walk to the church of S. Nicola di Bari, usually known as S. Lucia, which appears in the Godfather I, and to the crypt of the Capuchin friars which preserves some mummified bodies of citizens of noble birth who lived here in the 18th and 19th century. Your next visit will be to Forza d'Agrò, a charming little medieval village overlooking the Arab Norman castle of Cape Sant’Alessio and the Ionian coastline towards Messina and the Straits of Messina. From the piazza a lane leads to the Chiesa Madre (Cathedral) over and over again taken by Francis Coppola in his Godfathers. Enjoy a wonderful lunch in a local seafood restaurant before before returning to the hotel along the scenic coastal route passing characteristic villages.
